CFA®, CFP®CAIA®

Samuel Miller, CFA®, CFP®, CAIA®, is Executive Vice President of Investment Strategy at Signature Estate & Investment Advisors (SEIA). He leads the firm’s investment management and research efforts, chairing SEIA’s Investment Committee and Investment Solutions Group, directing due diligence, portfolio construction, investment selection, and communication around the economic and market environment.

Sam’s work is centered on helping advisors and clients make disciplined investment decisions when markets, interest rates, tax considerations, and headlines create uncertainty. He believes an effective investment strategy should be grounded in a client’s broader financial plan, not built around short-term market forecasts or the latest investment trend.

His areas of focus include portfolio construction, fixed income, tax-aware investing, alternative investments, direct indexing, and values-based investment approaches. Sam helps SEIA evaluate how these tools may fit within a diversified portfolio, with careful attention to a client’s goals, risk tolerance, liquidity needs, existing holdings, and tax circumstances.

Sam is also committed to making complex investment topics easier to understand. Through SEIA market commentary, webinars, podcasts, and media interviews, he shares perspectives on monetary policy, inflation, fixed income, artificial intelligence, market concentration, and investment opportunities. His communication emphasizes context, disciplined analysis, and the importance of considering both potential opportunities and risks.

Before joining SEIA, Sam was Vice President and Portfolio Manager at United Capital, where he oversaw the firm’s tax-managed, factor, and ESG portfolios and led the development of portfolio-construction, monitoring, and evaluation resources.

Sam earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago in 2011, with concentrations in Accounting, Analytic Finance, and Econometrics. He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® charter in 2007, the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst® designation in 2017, and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification in 2018.

Originally from Chicago, Sam lives in San Pedro, California, with his wife and daughters.
