Joseph Carey, CFA®, is the Alternative Investment Specialist within the Research Department, where he is responsible for private investment research and analysis. He contributes most of his time to performing due diligence on new investment opportunities and monitoring existing assets. He also works closely with Advisors to supplement their understanding, portfolio construction, and thought leadership with respect to private assets.
Previously, as Investment Officer – Investment Risk at the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System, Joseph was responsible for providing detailed analysis and recommendations on the plan’s risk exposure profile, liquidity, and solvency. He also played a role in the development of the plan’s Climate Risk management process. Prior to that, Joseph began his career as an Investment Officer – Private Equity at the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System, where he was responsible for investment due diligence, portfolio monitoring, and thought leadership. Joseph currently lives in Canandaigua, NY, in his home state.
Joseph received his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Siena College in 2018 and he earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charter in 2022.
